With a diameter nearly four times that of Earth, Neptune is a gas giant primarily composed of hydrogen, helium, and methane. The methane in its upper atmosphere absorbs red light while reflecting blue, giving the planet its striking deep blue color. Beneath the visible cloud tops lies a turbulent world: Neptune boasts the fastest winds in the solar system, reaching speeds of up to 2,100 kilometers per hour, which create massive storms and dark, swirling vortices comparable in size to Earth.
